Re: New (to me) 5 String Jazz bass
5 vs 4 string, it's the opposite for me. I've played 5 strings so long I try and try to take a 4 string on gigs, and always end up changing over to my 5 and never picking up the 4 again. I sing a good bit of lead, so the comfortable patterns I play out of on the 5 aren't there on the 4, and I find myself having to go out of "automatic" mode if you will on the 4, so I get lazy and go back to the 5. I know, it's just one string, but habit is tough to jump out of. And yes, I'll practice for 2 weeks or so on the 4, and STILL jump back to 5 when there's an audience!

I own 4 5-stringers, now. I like 'em now that I'm used to them.seenoweevil wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2017 12:29 am5 vs 4 string, it's the opposite for me. I like to have them strung up on one bass in case I gotta have that sound, but I don't think I'll put them on my main giggin' bass any more.flip18436572 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2017 10:39 amI am thinking of buying two sets for the 5 string and one I was thinking about was the nylon wrapped, but figured it was more of a "fad" type of thing and I would be disappointed in the feel and the sound.

Re: New (to me) 5 String Jazz bass
I just bought some half round D'Addario for the current favorite 4 string and the 5 string and see if I like them as much as I remember. I have tried a lot of strings and gave up on GHS as they always seemed to break, so I am back to my D'Addario.
