Very interesting photo. Pre-bluegrass. I wonder what they were playing and what other instruments were there. Looks like maybe a banjo headstock in the upper left corner and the back of a guitar in the lower right corner. And then the guy to the right of the bass player seems to be missing his right arm.

It looks like the guy behind the bass has his arms behind his back, and if you look behind him it looks like more guitars on the ground. Very hard to say what other instruments, but definitely three guitars in the photo with a banjo and the awesome bass.

Cool pic!
Although technically pre-bluegrass, I'll bet the elements of it were there ten years earlier. Or, considering the location, somewhere between New Orleans and Beaumont TX, this could very possibly be a swing session, either western or dixieland, or in between.... Either way, neat to look at, and great observations. Thanks for sharing.
