Re: Superior strings

I've used the Innovation Rockabilly's and those are supposed to be "medium" tension. I'd rate these definitely "low" tension similar to the Evah Pirazzi slaps I still have on the E and A. The fact that they come in sets of 6 means you can take the 4 (or 2) that you want. If the largest gauge doesn't...

Superior strings

I was at a Hot Club of Cowtown show a little while back and got to talk with their bass guy about his setup. He run's the newer EP slaps on the E and A and these Superior stings on the D and G. I got a set since I was already using the Slaps and am trying them out. Wow! These are great. A great alte...

Re: Slap patterns

I usually try to keep it to solos, or solos over basic blues, where you can play with the melody a bit. Otherwise, mainly single slaps to highlight the end of a phrase or in a bass run. Thanks for the Bartrum suggestion. As far as lessons go, flip, I've never had any either. I consider it a very per...

Slap patterns

Hey all, I took a music camp this last week with Mark Schatz, and he bought up this slap pattern that I'd never heard before but he was saying you can hear a lot in bluegrass bass solos. He called it a bossa nova patern in 4/4 and it goes 1-2-3 1-2-3 1-2 or 1-double slap 1- double slap, 1- single sl...

Re: New string from Pirastro

I just recently got a set of these and I love them. I was in need to replace my Innovation rockabillys when innovation went down for a while. I ended up getting the Jargars and ugh! A lot more tension than advertised. I really had to work to get sound out of those and I wasn't impressed with the sla...

Sound setup question

First of all, it's been a long time, hello to everyone, glad to see the forum it still active! Wanted to get some input on sound setup within the bands everyone plays with. From my Kay I run an Underwood pickup to my GK MB200. We recently got a BOSE tower PA, so I've been going from the DI of the am...

Chord help - frustrated!

Hey all, haven't been on in a long time but could use some help with some song chords: Teardrops in my eyes, the Red Allen tune, covered by many incl. Grascals, New Riders, etc. Fairly sure it's a I - IV - V but sounds like there is II in there especially at the end, a II-V-I. Chorus is different fr...
