Re: Any other crazy Canucks here?

:( doesn't seem like it. There haven't even been a lot of crazy Americans here lately. I guess bluegrass bass playing is a pretty small niche. And because there are so few of us, we're all busy filling in on gigs!

Re: Bought me a new bass! Eastman vb95

Another congrats and welcome! Haven't played an Eastman bass myself but their other instruments seem to get rave reviews, especially for the price.

Re: Slap patterns

I guess there aren't a lot of slappers here. Or a lot of anybody for that matter. Wish I could offer something helpful but I just never got into it. But that's cute that he calls it the Bossa Nova pattern. I can see where he gets that. But, to me, it's more of a rumba or bolero. Hey, I split hairs w...

Re: Tuning

I have been playing guitar/bass for about 40 years off and on. I wasn't trying to be difficult, but if you have never run into tuning other than 440, I am really amazed, because I have played rock/country/bluegrass/newgrass/americana/folk during my years and have tuned to A and to Ab or G#, dependi...

Re: Tuning

Same here. Never once heard of anybody (at least in a band) tuning to anything other than 440. We have standards for a reason. If the singer can't go up or down a half step, or the guitar player can't modulate or even use a capo, then that's too bad for them. In your case, what's stopping you from p...

Re: Jeremy Darrow and Front Country in Chicago area tomorrow

Had the chance to meet and pick some with the FC folks in Ithaca NY where we shared the bill with them, sort of.

Great people and very impressive band. Jeremy is a gentleman and a scholar.

Re: Are your ears ringing?

Fantastic! Glad to hear you guys were able to get together. And thanks for the kind words. I feel I have been a bit remiss in my own attention to this board, and for that I apologize. I'm considering maybe starting something on Facebook, which I believe someone here suggested. Seems that's where eve...

Re: Bow

Coda makes a really good carbon fiber bow that I've only heard praise for. If memory serves, they are in the $200 - $300 range, which is a lot of money to drop on something you won't use much, but is relatively affordable. It's the master wood bows that can run well beyond the price of a great instr...
